The Purrrfect Obsession

From Keyboard Cat to Grumpy Cat and beyond, the internet is obsessed with cats. I thought the fascination had died down until this past week, when I saw #HowToHerdCats trending on twitter.

While some were typical internet silliness:

Others were a little too true for cat owners:

Days later, #KittyHipHop was also trending.

I started to wonder if there was any reason cats were so popular, but didn’t know if, with all the problems in the world, anyone else cared about why.

I was wrong.

That’s just the start of it. It’s fascinating because cats are stereotypically antisocial. But maybe that’s why.

That New York Times article points out that cats are naturally unpredictable hunters, which leads to some of their viral behaviors on the internet (staying still, staring, etc.). Turns out, this makes them overall funnier in videos and memes than dogs (sorry pups!)

Regardless of the reason, the love for feline fame continues. Something I’m purrfectly fine with.
